Need new batteries? Going from 12V to 18V or 6V to 12V? Wiring Questions?

Hi, there, I'm new here
Hope to get some help. I purchased a Power Wheels jeep in 1996 that was eventually recalled but was unknown to me. This jeep has sat dormant for much of the time. Apparently the wiring harness was insufficient to handle the electrical load creating a fire hazard.

Now fast forward to the present day, I'd like to see if I can replace this wiring harness with something available as Fisher Price says this replacement harness is no longer available and the jeep must be scrapped. What can I do to make this jeep safe to use as I'm thinking of repainting it and gifting my grandson with it next year, if it's doable. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance :)

Do you have a model number? There is usually a decal in the battery compartment. If you could post a pic that would help also. Fisher Price repair centers will probably replace the harness for free under the recall no matter how old it is. If not just give us some more info and we will get you up and running.
