Need new batteries? Going from 12V to 18V or 6V to 12V? Wiring Questions?

I have a 2017 Hurricane Extreme and I'm trying to draw plans for before I go out and buy things. So I'm trying to wrap my mind around this concept but it's very difficult for me since I have no actual knowledge of this stuff.

Basically what I'm trying to come up with is a wiring diagram or a guide where I can use a SPST Key switch (like a scooter key switch or something) to power on two separate systems.

The 2 systems are lighting and motors, each with it's own power source. In the front compartment, I plan on using the original 12v 9ah PW batter for the lighting and in the rear compartment, I plan on doing a 18v 12ah conversion. I'm just trying to see if it's possible to use a simple ON/OFF key switch to turn on the entire system? I know a Relay will have to be used, but I just can't seem to picture the wiring diagram in my head and every time I try to draw it out, I get so confused.

Anyone have any guidance?

Just address it as two separate circuits that are switched on with a relay and then once you have those two circuits just take the 86 pin of both relays and connect it to the same switch

Hi MyOtherRideIsUrMom

Thanks for your input. That totally makes sense now. I was coming up with a whole bunch of weird diagrams. Like, the key switch activated a relay that in turn activates 2 other relays. I really appreciate it.

1 last question, in that diagram that you linked, there's a 3 pin switch/key. Is that type that I should be looking for, for this project? Because when I looked on Amazon there are a few varieties. Originally, I was going to go with a simple 2-pin On/Off key switch like this one: https://www.amazon.com/BEP-Position-Ign ... B07B6NG643. But now I'm thinking it should be like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Ignition-Lenmumu ... B074PL4B5C .

Thanks again!

No problem, sometimes we overthink things. I just grabbed a random image with the wiring example. The 3 wire switch has a LED or lighting, the 2 wire is just a switch. The extra wire is +12V so it lights up. You can also get a 3 wire, but not hook up +12v for led.

I just got these, 5pc waterproof blueled, $9
