Need new batteries? Going from 12V to 18V or 6V to 12V? Wiring Questions?

Wiring problems for (Kid Motorz) 57 Chevy Bel Air.

In the process of restoring this used and aged car for my daughter. Picked it up from a friend pretty cheap. It needed some work so me being a guy decided to restore it.

I stripped it down to the body and frame. Wires were somewhat wild and crazy. Here is where I messed up.

I thought I could clean up the wires and make it nice and clean. Problem is I have no idea how to rewire them now.
I tried off a diagram from here and litteraly SHOCKED myself. I had plastic from wires blow up like bubble gum.

That being said Im a little hesitant to try again.

I hope to get a diagram so I could finish this car for my daughter.

I have pics from start to present. Ordered all new chrome pieces, decals, bumper, windshield, hub caps. New paint job with 2 clear coats. Black interior and black undercarriage. I have head lights and tail lights with under glow as well but need to get wiring for basic needs done first.

PLEASE HELP
