I think I'm going to mod this Lil Quad to use a #7 19T gearbox with a HPI GT550 motor.

Here are some ideas I came up with.

Jeep Wheels and Jeep Axle

Lil Wrangler Wheels, Lil Wrangler Axle, Lil Wrangler Wheel Spacer

Stock Wheels, Lil Wrangler Axle, Lil Wrangler Wheel Spacer

I think I'm going to go with the stock wheels, Lil Wrangler axle, and Lil Wrangler wheel spacer. The stock wheels won't require me to hack up the body for them to fit. I have to use a larger axle than stock because the #7 gearbox and wheel driver is wider than the stock gearbox and wheel driver. I'll just cut down the axle when I'm done.

I'll have to hack up the body to get the #7 gearbox to fit.

I may install the wiring harness from the Lil Wrangler in the Lil Quad. That would give me forward and reverse, and a pedal to accelerate.

After this mod is complete, I'll need a new name for this Lil Quad. I was thinking "Supah Quad".

I hadn't thought about that. I have some F-150 wheels that I can pull off of a parts donor vehicle. Good thinking! I'll try those out to see how they fit. Is the wheel driver on a 3B gearbox the same as the wheel driver used on a #7 gearbox? If not, I think I can find a way to make it work.

I would have to majorly hack up the body to get 2 gearboxes to fit in the Lil Quad. I'm not sure how structurally sound it would be afterward. I think I'll stick with a single gearbox for now.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I tried the wheel driver from the 3B gearbox on the #7 19T gearbox. It fits great. I believe they use the same exact wheel driver.

You have a good thing going here man I just finished up stretching the lil "drag" quad and everything is ready to go I just have to figure out a way to take 3 links out of the chain and without buying a chain tool.... and no one around here has one for a #25 chain but that's another topic..... ill post pics in a few but def like the route you are going with the quad...

Today I hacked up the body to accommodate the #7 gearbox and F-150 wheels. I had to use the F-150 axle because the stock axle was not long enough. I had my son test it out on 6V and it ran great. I hope to post some pics soon. Here are a few things on my list for this vehicle.

  • Trim rear wheel wells a little more so the wheels won't rub
  • Remove traction screws from wheels
  • Regrease gearbox
  • Oil motor
  • Use threadlockers on motor screws
  • Modify body to accommodate 12V battery
  • Cut axle to size
  • Install HPI GT550 motor
  • Install F-150 wiring harness for foot pedal and forward/reverse
  • Install lights

I decided not to install the foot pedal from the F-150 in this vehicle because there really isn't enough room for it with the larger rear wheels. I still have a lot more work to do on this one, but here is a video for the meantime.
