I picked this up from the side of the road Sunday, across from a church no less, and got a chance to tear into it last night. I found lots of questionable wiring (and some that's just trash) and mismatched screws underneath the terrible paint. So first some pics:

And likely why it was free

I fixed the motor wiring, and plugged in my redneck testing rig, getting no power to the motors. Out came the pedal box, and all the wiring onto the bench. I quickly found a broken connection underneath the plunger switch, which was fixed with a modified female spade connector. Now there's power, both motors spin the right directions and all three "gears" work. I've broken down the rest of the tub for paint prep. I'll try pressure washing it first, then I'll paint some brake fluid on to peel what doesn't flake off.
I've ordered one of the Gruber 12v/12Ah batteries, a connector and a couple other little goodies to make it a better ride for the little miss. Luckily, it came with two dead batteries and a working charger, so that's one less thing to buy.

The current plan is to leave it 12V for now, mostly stock, but spiff it up with a proper paint job and a couple goodies. A couple of things I'm looking to change on it are the steering wheel for one without the sound box hole, and fabricate a hitch to go with a little horse trailer for her "Tonys"

Well, I got side tracked. The tub is torn down, fully scraped and sanded, and partially primed, but I ran into a bit of a road block when I found a crack in each side of the tub next to the rollbar mounts.I ground a V out, used my soldering gun to weld it up the best I could with trimmings from a lil quad tub that had been chewed on by a dog as filler, but I haven't yet epoxied a reinforcement on the back side yet.
However, while doing my daily craigslist troll over coffee this morning, I found an ad for "Power Wheels Jeep - $75"
"Toddlers battery power Jeep. Used by one toddler for just 2 summers. All parts and charger plus battery. $300 new, Now just $70."

I emailed my number, 10 minutes later we were on the road to pick it up for $60 CND! Good working battery, good charger, good to go! It's missing one latch for the hood and has the typical unibody Jeep sag and toe issues on the front, but I think I did okay.
I'm not sure if I'm ready to abandon the original LTD Jeep just yet, she may have two! I do have some questions about common parts and differences, but I'll search more for the answers here first. You guys are a great resource, and a bad influence!
She loves her Jeep and ran the Gruber 12/12 dead driving it around the back yard.

Well, a major finger injury took me out for a few weeks, but life rolls on. The (blue) Jeep got driven all around the yard, on the driveway out front and got the hang of steering (ish). I stashed the LTD tub and most of the parts in my shed o' shame and settled in for a few months of just letting her drive, fixing a lil quad that's been hanging around waiting for me to thread the rear axle and just enjoying the fun.

Then we went to Value Village one sunny Sunday morning. Lo and behold, sitting in the kids section was a bright pink Barbie Jeep, sans rollbar, battery and charger, with a $20 price tag. SOLD! Sat the daughter in it, pushed it thru the store and onto the roof it goes! (Second Jeep to ride the roof). She loves the doors, and after I got the radio working, loves that too! I only have room for two Jeeps at most for the moment, so one Jeep has to go! I asked her "Which Jeep do you want?" and she ran to the pink Jeep, so the blue Jeep got hawked off with a couple of stock batteries.

I've had a couple of ads for a while looking for parts rigs, and had my wife put some up on the local mom swap facebook groups, and finally got a decent hit with a chalked out and dead Safety 1st Corvette. Struck a deal, picked it up and onto the roof it goes. I stripped it down for the axles, gearboxes, wheels and some of the other goodies, then the remains of the broken tub hit the trash. I think she's getting a race Jeep

I whipped this up in photoshop for the original Jeep, using a MJ2 speedo, Sun Pro Supertach II, and the oil pressure gauge from my weekend fun car, and because I'm an AMC guy, the AMC Jeep logo.
