This is my current project, a customer brought me their carriage, they said it wasnt running correctly. Well, I discovered that one of the gearboxes had stripped teeth and shifter was also damaged. So I ordered new motors and gearboxes, ripped out all the stock wiring and started over.

I put together an ESC setup using a 24v/500w controller and started wiring the vehicle up.

Next order of business was to convert the lanterns from the stock 3v battery powered LED to 12v hardwired LED.

The customer had requested a rubber tire upgrade, so after some research, I decided to keep it simple and wrap the stock wheels with bicycle tires. I picked up some 20" tires from Wal-Mart and stapled them on.

CJB,

Thank you very much, I try to keep these looking clean/factory whenever possible.

This is by far the most helpful 24V install I've seen in a long time. Really inspiring me to pull the trigger on one...

I understand you used that big DC inverter to step down to 12 V for lighting which is neat.

However what are the two big relay looking things near the controller and what is their purpose? Are they just that, bigger amperage relays? I figured a 500W controller only pulls 20 Amps at 24V so the smaller 30 Amp automotive relays would be fine. So any thoughts there?

Side question not necessarily on topic, anyone know if stock older Peg Perego motors can handle a 24V ESC without needing upgrading? I was eyeballing Johnson RS-775 motors but if they're not necessary to start out I can save the money. I got a freebie Magica that my wife said is staying in the family (fine by me) and while I can get it running as is that is going to be my hot rod platform.

Thanks! I bet this carriage rips!
