My 3 year old got a lower end lighning mcqueen huffy from the inlaws for xmas. The body looks great and it works, but it’s a tiny little 6v battery produced very little power. To make matters worse when charging the batter you could only charge it 8-10 hours and must unplug it. Well it only lasted a few months before the wife left the batter plugged in for a few days and it never turned on again. I replaced the 6v with a big 12v battery from a UPS I no longer use. However the car won’t charge that batter. Not a big deal since I have several spare from another UPS I can charge and just switch when he wants to ride.

The single 12v works great, but is it possible to add a 2nd batter to increase the time he can use it, but not the speed. Right now it’s pretty fast at 5mph so I’m not looking to go faster, but it would be nice if he can ride it for a few hours without having to switch out the battery to a fresh one.

You can wire the 12v batteries in parallel to get longer run times. It is recommended to use batteries of matching amp hour ratings.
