Upgrade John Deere Gator (old style) to 18v - help for the clueless please!

Hello,
I am hoping to upgrade my son's John Deere Gator from 12v to 18v for a Christmas surprise. I am in need of some very basic help (I apologise for my complete lack of knowledge). I have read lots of topics but I'm still none the wiser. What do I need to buy? A 6v battery with charger? Will the new battery fit inside the existing battery case? What else is needed?
Thanks so much, Clare

You'll need a 12v battery and a 6v battery of matching AH ratings (i.e. 12V 12AH, 6V 12AH), and at least 1 30A fuse holder and fuse. I like to fuse each battery, but you can get by with fusing the + side of the 12V. Personally, I'd move the batteries to the space under the dump bed and install a charge port for easy recharging.

Also, may I recommend an 18V Interface board to simplify your wiring...

You'll also need a charger capable of 6v and 12v. Most of us use these:
