24v w Traxxas 775s, Circuit Trips In High Gear

Im doing this major overhaul of my daughter's PW Escalade and finally got to the Motor phase. 12v wired in series, 775s with MLToys metal enhanced gearboxes. 40 amp circuit breaker in line at battery. On the first test drive, she was gleefully sailing along in high gear, faster then shes ever been, and 5 mins in the circuit breaker started tripping. So, I had her stay in low gear for rest of trip.
Now, ive identified what might be causing a short, and I will address it immediately following this post. If it is not a short tho, what are my options? Can I simply purchase a 50 or 60 amp circuit breaker, or is it way more involved than that?

What are you using for batteries? Tires?

Hello, thanks for your response. Batteries are ExpertPower 12 Volt 20 Ah ran in series, and the rear wheels are stock, brand new. Front wheels have mountain bike tire tread riveted to them.

Could be lots of things causing it starting with cheap batteries. Checkout the troubleshooting guide on the mltoys website for more info on fuse blowing.

Ok, just checked troubleshooting and I think the shiftrr assembly is a good place to start. Found a replacement shifter switch, but what do you call the little white housing that the wires enter, that attaches to the shifter? May as well replace the whole unit. Thanks.
