Peg Perego Gaucho - Eating Gears

Hello,

I have a Peg Perego Gaucho 12v machine that seems to be eating gears.. I have blown through 3 gear boxes and was wondering if anyone sold any upgraded gears for these machines or what options I have to upgrade it(e.g. Different gearbox etc.)

I am new to this whole powerwheel modding thing but not new to modding vehicles in general.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

We have about a dozen Gauchos and half of them had bad gearboxes when I bought them. Most had a couple of teeth stripped off the big main gear from the kids shifting from fwd/rev while moving. The gearboxes are tough and on 12v are very reliable unless the kids shift between fwd/rev while moving. If your kids are not abusing the gearboxes then check for a bent axle maybe.

Are you still running at 12v ? We have Gauchos running on direct 18v that are very reliable.
Have you opened the gearboxes to check what the damage is ? Any pictures ?
Do you have some traction aids added on the tires ? The stock plastic tires have plenty of slip to protect the gearboxes at take off.

Is it always the gearbox on one side that fails ?

Yes, still running 12v.

Opened up the gear box and it is the small gear that is stripped the one that turns the final drive gear. However there is alot of Sand in them so that could be the culprit.

Also still running the plastic tires, most of the time this is used on dirt, sand and grass very rarely does it see concrete or asphalt.

No pictures unfortunately but can take some next time I open one up.

Was just hoping that someone had an option for a bit stronger gears especially with 3D printing now a thing etc.

Also know of a place that sells just the gears? I looked online and everyone seemed to want to sell the entire gearbox with engine which I currently have 4 of all of which are stripped.

You need to find a way to seal the gearboxes (tape, caulk, ...). The tiniest bit of sand will destroy the gears.
It doesn't matter what kind of replacement gears you can get if there is dirt and sand getting in there.

Thanks for the info, yeah I will see what I can do in terms of sealing it.

However do you know of anyone selling gears for these or do i need to buy the whole gearbox?

Perego gears are not sold individually. Which gear do you need ? I have a couple of gearboxes with broken final-drive gears (the big gear at the bottom) but the other three gears are good.
