Need new motors? Grind a gearbox? Adding teeth to a pinion?

Hi I am new here. My son has been enjoying his yamaraptor-12v ATV for years now and it has worked great. We just bought another one for our daughter as well so they can ride around together. However just the other day his raptor stopped working and we assumed it was the battery that needed charging. So we charged it and now only the 2nd gear works, not 1st nor reverse. The battery is fully charged and I did try the other battery and it has the same issue. Was wondering what I can do to fix his ATV so that he can back up and use 1st gear as well. Any help is appreciated and if I need to do some tests just let me know. Thanks!

Does it make any noise in low speed? Like the motors are running but not spinning the tires.

When you lift up the back wheels off the ground and press the pedal do both wheels spin when on high speed?

It does not make any noise at low speed or reverse, however the battery level light does turn on. When I lift it up the wheels do not spin unless it is in high/2nd gear, then they do spin fast.

Sounds like a shifter issue. Specifically the high/low switch in the shifter. Might just be corroded contacts or could need a new switch. I would start there with cleaning the connections and looking for problems. You can take the switches apart and check/clean the internals. Watch for small pieces and springs if you take one apart. You could just buy new switches or a whole working shifter online and replace all of it.

Here are the connections to the switch and they look good in my opinion. So you mean take apart the switch itself to see how it looks inside, just hope I won't make things worse. Does anyone have the instructions on how to take apart the switch?

You could test the switches with a continuity meter, before taking them apart. They do look pretty clean on the outside and the connections look pretty good too.
